Just Add Water

Hetta Coffey Series (Book 1)

Author: Jinx Schwartz

AVAILABLE at Amazon

Winner: International EPPIE Award for Best Mystery.

Hetta Coffey is a sassy Texan with a snazzy yacht and and she's not afraid to use it.

She's a globe-trotting civil engineer with swath of failed multi-national affairs in her jet stream.

Plying the San Francisco waterfront, trolling for triceps, her attention is snagged by a parade of passing yachts--especially their predominantly male skippers--and experiences a champagne-induced epiphany: If she had a boat, she could get a man.

In spite of a spectacular ignorance of all things nautical, Hetta buys her dream boat, but shadowy stalker, an inconvenient body, and Hetta's own self-destructive foibles, give a whole new meaning to the phrase "sink or swim!"

Just Add Salt

Hetta Coffey Mystery Series (Book 2)

Author: Jinx Schwartz

AVAILABLE at Amazon

Hetta Coffey is a woman with a yacht, and she's not afraid to use it!

Hetta, a globe-trotting engineer with attitude, a penchant for trouble, and a yacht, is back, and this time she s steering us into hot Mexican waters.

Miffed that vacation plans with her chronically absent boyfriend Jenks Jenkins have gone awry, she accepts a job in Baja. So what if she and her friend Jan are spectacularly unqualified to take her yacht on a thousand mile cruise in the eastern Pacific Ocean in the middle of hurricane season? Hiring a handsome, if somewhat fishy captain for the trip might keep them off the rocks, but probably won t do the same for her future with Jenks. Meanwhile, a little eye candy on board can t be all bad.

Hetta s unmanageable independence impels her to tackle the very profitable, if environmentally and politically incorrect project south of the border. True to form, her irreverent nature and disregard for danger soon swamps her in a sea of inconvenient bodies, illegal aliens, a pesky whale, and a menacing Mexican machinator. And without her usual arsenal of firepower.

Set sail for Baja Mexico s Magdalena Bay as Hetta Coffey leads us once more into a morass of intrigue that will keep you laughing, breathless, and wanting more.

To quote Lord Byron, Hetta would "much rather sink beneath the shock than moulder piecemeal on the rock."

Just Add Trouble

Hetta Coffey Series (Book 3)

Author: Jinx Schwartz

AVAILABLE at Amazon

Hetta Coffey is a woman with a yacht and she's not afraid to use it.

A globe-trotting engineer with adventure in her soul, Hetta is determined to solidify her relationship with her long-distance boyfriend, Jenks jenkins. What better place for a romantic interlude than aboard a yacht in Mexico's hauntingly beautiful and solitary Sea of Cortez?

But where Hetta goes, trouble follows, and chaos is sure to ensue. After a run-in with a couple of sea serpents that threaten to rock the boat, she nevertheless decides to take on a project in the port city of Guaymas. After all, Jenks is headed back to Kuwait, so why not cash in on the best of both worlds by making some dough while living aboard her boat in Mexico?

Once again Hetta's indomitablespirit, stubborn independence and penchant for deceit will keep the reader in stitches as she launches herself and her best friend, Jan, into a sea of trouble. A pesky parrot, a drunken aunt, and a shadowy figure who is handsome in a "criminal sort of way" lead to murder, mayhem, kidnapping, and run-ins with several federal agencies on both sides of the border.

Just Deserts

Hetta Coffey Series (Book 4)

Author: Jinx Schwartz

AVAILABLE at Amazon

Hetta Coffey is a woman with a yacht, and she's not afraid to use it. As a self employed engineering consultant with a penchant of oddball-read: shady- projects, she has a way of attracting trouble.

With her floating home drydocked for repairs in Mexico, Hetta needs a place to live and a job to pay the boatyard. Landing a project at a mining operation not far from her boat, Hetta finds herself on the tumultuous Arizona/Mexico border, where all hell is breaking loose even before she gets there.

“When I was a young horse, I thought if I wasn’t always good, I could at least be useful. Then I broke my leg.”

When Snoopy was three years old, he won the 2007 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association Trail Futurity. His trainer and his owner had his career mapped out—he would be campaigned around the circuit and qualify to be invited to the AQHA World Show.

Then in 2008, Snoopy broke his left hind sesamoid, a small bone in the leg. This injury can mean anything from surgery to euthanasia. Surgery didn’t guarantee he could be ridden again, much less shown.

In the tradition of Black Beauty, this is Snoopy’s own story, told from his special point of view. He tells of his youth, his training, his injury, and his long fight to return to the show arena, to prove he’s the same horse he always was, only different.

“The perfect gift-book for horse-lovers of all ages.”
—Michele Scott, best-selling author of Silent Harmony (Into the Ring)

Reviews:
The Run

edge of your seat!!! By Joshua T. Schwarz

I woke up and started reading this because I just wasn't ready to crawl out of bed. I couldn't put it down! It took me a little under an hour and now I'm definitely wide awake and ready for the day!! I look forward to reading more of her books!! This one is a must read!

Falcon Point
Another intense story by Diane Strong - Jesse

The second story in the Running Suspense series that Ms. Strong has released and that I was fortunate to edit. And this story is just as good as the first, just as full of white knuckle reading that makes you want the story to go faster so you can find out how it ends but not too fast so you can savor every word.

Claire is a typical teenager -- has the hots for a boy in her class, is active in her high school, and loves to run. On a day when she's training for a big running event, Claire goes missing…and all hell breaks loose in trying to find her.

Another great suspense story that keeps you guessing as you read. I love these characters -- one of which carries over from "The Run". Once again, a great plot and totally believable characters. Another must read from this lady.

And I give this one five out of five stars.

Reservoir Run
Mind Quakes! - Bill R. Chitwood

The recent years have not been happy for the Gleason family. Alison has kept to her running and other clandestine affairs. She and husband Rick have reached a dangerous end-point in their mind games. It wasn't always this way. Once there was love, but, with the kids' arrival, there came an apathy and a widening gap of communication, particularly so for Alison…she runs with a fervor and she escapes in other unfaithful ways. For Rick, fragile and still clinging to hope and love, his mind quakes and frightening dreams become terrible things. As Alison lies comatose in her hospital bed, having been found in a deep ravine off a running path, Rick sits and agonizes with his dreams and thoughts…

It is a quick and wonderful read, exploring the depths of love, hate, family, despair, and hope. The reader easily gets engrossed in the psychological mind quakes and awaits what proves to be a pulse-quickening ending.

You won't be disappointed with Diane Strong's fifth installment of 'The Running Suspense Series.'

Merry Christmas Mr. Saunders
A fast paced story of runner in trouble - Kayku

This is a poignant tale of a young woman who loses her keys while running on a lonely country road. When she finds help, it is not what she wanted or expected. You will enjoy this short story, moves quickly and smoothly to a surprise ending.

Short Stories Included:
The Run The Rescue
The Other Way
Falcon Point
Reservoir Run
Merry Christmas Mr. Saunders

Out and Back

Author: Diane Strong

Amazon
Barnes and Noble

An out and back is a run that starts and ends at the same point. Along the way we are changed. In the end we are back where we started. Amber runs every morning, bakes home cooked meals, and keeps a spotless home. She homeschools her children, grows an organic garden and milks her own goats. But Amber Stonewall is not perfect. She is a mother who fails, a wife who is unable to show affection, a daughter who is absent and a sister who knows it all. When her mom dies, it all slaps her in the face.

Couldn't put it down! - Up North

This was a "fun to read" book that looks back as far as childhood and the attitudes we all have and the impact they may or may not have had on those surrounding us. I got sucked in in the first chapter and just couldn't put it down. This is quite a feat since I don't normally read at all. I highly recommend you pick it up and enjoy it as much as I did! - Good luck putting it down-

Another Review
Parenting and Grieving and Running - Mark Matthews

Out and Back is the story of how a mother, runner, and uniquely gifted and wonderfully flawed human being deals with the death of her mother, and how, even after her mothers death, she is constantly working through their relationship.

This novel fell into my lap at a time when I was dealing with the death of a loved one, and was also in the throes of marathon training, so it spoke directly to my life circumstances and so my read was done in a unique mindframe. I am very glad it came into my life when it did.

Out and Back was very readable, easily accessible, doesn't require work but just keeps your attention and interest since if you're a parent or a runner you can relate. I loved the main character, who I assume is partially but not completely the author. I loved how she was aware of her flaws, how she had such high expectations of herself yet also swore and scolded herself when she didn't meet her own standards. She seemed so real, and the challenges of raising a family were portrayed with a sense of urgency amongst the very real threats we face.

And, when possible, the main character runs to cope and give her strength, yet is challenged to fit in a run when injuries and other annoyances get in her way. Yes, I did hope for more running in the novel, much like in my own life.

The conflicts and suspense of this novel to build a healthy family while fighting economic uncertainties, bickering kids, running injuries, kept me reading. I loved that she was constantly trying to negotiate family relationships by dealing with all the human imperfections we have and ultimately finding some peace by accepting her mother, and herself, for all her faults. Relationships with others don't change when they pass. This novel showed that.
